ACCESS CORRIDOR AT JOINT BASE LEWIS MCCHORD

Client:  US Army Corps of Engineers

Project Description:  A design-build project providing the first phase of linkage between the Lewis and McChord sites of JBLM after becoming a joint base in 2010. The project involved horizontal and vertical construction with roadways, a roundabout and a bridge over the BNSF Railroad and the publicly accessible 150th Street/Perimeter Road to connect Lewis Main and McChord Field. The Access Control Point included guard booths, private vehicle inspection areas, access control canopy, road lane control, security lighting, and fencing. Support facilities included utilities, paving, storm drainage, telecommunication systems, and site improvements. Heating was provided by electric space and infrared heating. Sustainable design practices were achieved through storm water management and LED lighting. Received the Society of American Military Engineers’ (SAME) Projects of Excellence Silver Award.
